Streetcar Flats
Streetcar Flats, located in Salt Lake City's Sugar House neighborhood, is a modern residential community completed in 2024. This four-story development offers 75 units, including studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments ranging from 592 to 915 square feet. A key feature of its design is the use of Black Beauty thin brick in a Norman size for the facade, giving the building a timeless and durable aesthetic while enhancing its contemporary architectural appeal.
Designed by Harris Architecture and constructed by Miller General Contractors, the building showcases clean lines and innovative materials that contribute to the urban development along the S-Line streetcar corridor. The project reflects a thoughtful approach to design, blending modernity with historical inspiration rooted in the area’s past.
The name “Streetcar Flats” pays homage to the rich history of streetcar transportation in Salt Lake City. In the early 20th century, an extensive streetcar network played a significant role in shaping neighborhoods like Sugar House. These lines fostered residential and commercial growth by providing efficient transit options, making the area one of the city's most vibrant communities. Today, this history is echoed in the Utah Transit Authority’s S-Line, a modern streetcar route that runs through Sugar House, connecting it with the broader city. Streetcar Flats is strategically located adjacent to the Sugarmont S-Line stop, offering residents seamless access to public transportation and reinforcing the connection between past and present.
Inside, the development emphasizes comfort and sophistication. Each unit includes high-speed internet access, in-unit washers and dryers, air conditioning, and stainless steel appliances. Kitchens feature quartz countertops and modern fixtures, while living areas combine durable vinyl flooring with cozy carpeting. Shared amenities include a fitness center, clubhouse, rooftop terrace, and bicycle storage, with controlled access via key fob entry for added security and convenience.
Streetcar Flats integrates its historical roots with forward-thinking urban development. By aligning with sustainable construction practices and offering transit-oriented housing, it not only preserves the legacy of Salt Lake City's streetcar era but also contributes to the ongoing revitalization of Sugar House. This project bridges the past and future, creating a vibrant, modern living space in one of the city’s most historically significant neighborhoods.
